Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure that is performed to save a tooth that has become infected or severely decayed.

During the procedure, the dentist removes the infected or damaged pulp from the inside of the tooth, cleans and disinfects the root canals, and then fills and seals them.

This helps to prevent further infection and saves the tooth from extraction.

After the procedure, a dental crown may be placed on the tooth to restore its strength and functionality.

Root canal treatment at Sharrow Vale is performed under local anesthesia to ensure the patient's comfort.

Luckily, we have the pleasure of having Dr Mike Jones working with us. One of the best endodontic specialists in the UK. To learn more about Mike, please head to our website under “Our Team”

After undergoing root canal treatment, it is important to follow these post-operative instructions to ensure proper healing and minimize any discomfort:

To allow the tooth to heal properly, avoid chewing on the treated tooth until it has been fully restored with a dental crown or filling. Stick to soft foods and avoid hard or sticky foods that could damage the tooth.

Continue to brush and floss your teeth regularly, but be gentle around the treated tooth. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and avoid vigorous rinsing or spitting for the first 24 hours.

For the first few days after the procedure, avoid consuming hot or cold foods and drinks as they may cause sensitivity or discomfort.

You may experience some discomfort or swelling after the procedure. Applying an ice pack to the affected area for 10-15 minutes at a time can help reduce swelling. Over-the-counter pain relievers can also be taken as directed.

It is important to attend any follow-up appointments scheduled by your dentist. These appointments allow your dentist to monitor the healing process and ensure the success of the treatment.

These instructions and more information will be given to you on the day of your appointment
