Cleaning your child’s teeth is extremely important. Ideally, you should clean their teeth twice a day for two minutes until they are 8 years old. Limit snacking and ensure the main drinks you give are water and milk. Flavoured water, fizzy water and no-added-sugar squash drinks are all highly acidic and are extremely harmful to the enamel on your child’s teeth.
Children should visit the dentist every 6 months. From the age of three, children will be offered a fluoride varnish application. It involves painting a varnish that contains high levels of fluoride on to the surface of the tooth every six months to prevent decay. It works by strengthening tooth enamel, making it more resistant to decay.
